The Kerem Tunnel is a great location to go on a hike or ride.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel’s newest cycle tunnel, was opened as part the 42-kilometer cycle route which is a loop around the capital.

נווה פריצקי The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was inaugurated by Jerusalem’s Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, and hundreds of cyclists.
Jerusalem was once very well-known tourist destination due to its rich history. Elkin explained that today, in addition to its historic treasures the tunnel project encompasses modern day tourism. “The launch of the tunnel project is a different aspect of the growth of Jerusalem as well as its transformation to an attractive tourist destination for all types in Israel as well as around the world.
Elkin his ministry, which together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said the ministry “invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year to develop all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism and in the creation of exciting activities and ventures that connect the rich history of our capital city to its future… I invite all cyclists to come and take a ride along the new, well-maintained and modern route that takes in the view of Old Jerusalem.
נווה פריצקי Elkin’s Ministry Elkin’s Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the project.
Elkin stressed, “The Kerem Tunnel project will be a central instrument for achieving our dream to change the concept transportation throughout Jerusalem.” “The tunnel is set to connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will link to the numerous cycling routes that exist in the city. These will be paved within the diverse areas. The objective is to encourage cyclists in the city.
The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 1990s to create an important sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently being used as an infrastructure Tunnel which also includes the fifth line of water that runs to Jerusalem via the Mekorot water corporation.

Road construction, installation , and testing of electrical and safety systems are just a few of the ongoing projects to ensure that the tunnel is secure for all year.
The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites which include the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo, aquarium and the as well as the historic natural springs of Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
